CEO has developed an 8-week evening programme called Design Your Practice for those embarking and building a creative freelance career. We want to ensure that creative people have the right skills for business; support for new projects to grow; effective transitional support between academic learning and industry, the opportunity to revisit and revitalise their practice, increased confidence in their ability and the right work-life balance.

The Programme

Design Your Practice will help participants to establish themselves and proactively design their future. The programme was launched in Glasgow in 2017 and is now being successfully rolled out across Scotland.  We are now launching it in Dumfries and Galashiels and are seeking  Dumfries and Galloway and Borders based creatives to be the facilitators.  Our target audience is recent creative graduates, young artists and more mature creatives who want to revisit their creative business fundamentals.

We cover the subjects of costing and pricing your work, marketing your services, planning and business structures, finance and administration. We want to contribute to the network of creatives who learn from and support each other across the country.

Facilitating the Programme

The two facilitators will deliver the 8-week programme during weekly evening sessions from 18.00 – 21.00, to suit the working patterns of the participants.  Our programme will commence in the spring

The successful candidate must have and demonstrate the following:

  • An established and sustainable creative practise of 5 years minimum.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with individuals and organisations
  • Experience in delivery and presentation as part of their practice
  • Commitment to the development of creative industries in Scotland
  • Commitment to equal opportunities in the arts

The total fee for delivery and preparation would be £1,000. The fee will be subject to enough participants signing up and paying for the programme. All materials for the programme will be supplied, but some marketing administrative work will be necessary.
