Where can I access machinery to manufacture my samples?

Check out our list of facilities throughout Scotland that offer use of machinery, workshops, sampling and production for fashion and textiles.

There are manufacturing, sampling and print facilities throughout Scotland that can help you develop a new technique, realise your designs, and also join a community of like-minded peers.

Fashion Foundry has a large, bright studio available for developing work, with pattern cutting space, industrial sewing machines, overlockers and a steam press at South Block in Glasgow. Contact us at fashionfoundry@culturalenterpriseoffice.co.uk for more information.

Where can I access machinery to manufacture my samples?

Here are a few other facilities to try:

  • Maklab is a digital fabrication and personal manufacturing studio. They run training workshops and all machines are available to book in their flagship store in Glasgow. Catch them on tour with the Maklab Mobile Resource and in one of their local spaces near you.
  • BeYonder Ltd is a Paisley-based training facility specialising in small batch manufacturing for independent designers as well as developing sewing skills. They also have two bookable machines housed at Maklab.
  • MAKE Aberdeen offers laser cutting and 3D printing facilities.
  • Kalopsia offer access to their machinery at The Facility in Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh, as well as prototyping, sampling and small batch manufacturing. 
  • Heriot Watt University's School of Textiles and Design offers facilities for screen print, weave, knit and opportunities to experiment with advanced textiles techniques with their technicians. Access their Galashiels Campus facilities by creating a mini residency.
  • Shetland College houses a textile facilitation unit for small runs and sampling.
  • Centre for Advanced Textiles (CAT) is a digital print facility in Glasgow where you can print minimum runs of one metre on a range of fabrics.
  • BeFab Be Creative is a digital print service in Edinburgh using advanced technology enabling accurate colour matching.
  • Process Studios, based in Edinburgh, has facilities for those manufacturing fashion, printed textiles and jewellery, available through monthly membership or sessional access.
