Richard Myers from Transmit Start-Ups shares five things to avoid when pitching your business plan.

1. Don’t criticise your competitors

Show a good knowledge of who your competition is, explain what they do well, and where their gaps are.

2. Don't make false and naive statements

Don’t make dishonest statements about yourself or competitors – if you're telling porkies, you will get found out!

3. Don't be dishonest with yourself

Don’t let pride and ego make you do something that just doesn’t work.

4. Never say you don’t have competitors

It's a lazy statement to make – every business has some sort of competition.

5. Don't say "If I can get one percent of the market..."

Another lazy statement that isn't attractive to investors.
