Our range of business support services help creative micro-businesses* based in Scotland build the skills and knowledge they need to clarify their creative ideas and turn them into flourishing enterprises. Whether their ambitions lie in the commercial or not-for-profit sectors, we can offer support to businesses and individuals at any stage of development, from pre-start to those considering growth.
We complement existing business support provision and add value by delivering business support that meets the particular needs of creative clients. We believe that by working in harmony in this way, we can accelerate the future viability of a sector that is fundamental to the cultural health and wealth of the nation.
Cultural Enterprise Office is a not for profit company limited by guarantee (registered number SC357635). We are supported by Creative Scotland, Dundee City Council, The City of Edinburgh Council and Glasgow City Council. Our services are delivered in partnership with the Business Gateway network.
Operating in Glasgow since May 2002, the service expanded into Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh in 2004. Since 2008, we have been delivering our service more widely across the four city regions: Aberdeen & Grampian, Dundee & Tayside, Edinburgh & East Central and Glasgow & West Central with Regional Advisers based in these areas. The scope of our Enquiry Line provides clients with access to our services on a national level even if they are based some distance from the nearest satellite office and Regional Adviser.
Cultural Enterprise Office deliver additional projects and works to commission with organisations through Cultural Enterprise Ltd. Cultural Enterprise Ltd (registered number SC388662) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cultural Enterprise Office.
*Our area of intervention is with micro enterprises. We adopt the European Union definition on SMEs which came into being on 1 January 2005 that categorises enterprises as Micro, Small and Medium according to following criteria:
- Micro enterprises are defined as enterprises which employ fewer than 10 people and whose annual turnover or annual balance sheet total does not exceed 2 million euro
- Small enterprises are defined as enterprises which employ fewer than 50 people and whose annual turnover or annual balance sheet total does not exceed 10 million euro
- Medium Enterprises are defined as enterprises which employ fewer than 250 people and whose annual turnover or annual balance sheet total does not exceed 43 million euro.
