Design Your Practice Call-Outs

Cultural Enterprise Office is developing an eight week evening programme ‘Design Your Practice’.

The programme is focused on recent arts graduates and those embarking on a creative freelance career.

The programme enable emerging creatives to establish themselves and proactively design their future. It will be piloted in Glasgow Summer 2017 with a roll out across Scotland planned later in 2017.

Design Your Practice enables creatives the right skills for successful creative freelance career providing effective transitional support between academic learning and the world of work.

Drawing on resources from our Starter for 6 programme for creative start-ups (2010 – 2017), our previous courses and our industry expertise, we will cover the following topics:

  • Costing and pricing your work
  • Marketing your services
  • Planning and business structures
  • Finance and administration.

Subsequently, we have two exciting opportunities to get involved with the programme:
 
Communication/Illustration Call Out

We are looking for a graphic designer or illustrator to collaborate with us to create the course materials. This would suit a communication designer or recent graduate with the relevant experience. We are looking for a bold, engaging and distinctive style to form the visual language and tools for the programme.

The total fee available for this work is £1,600 which we are calculating as 8 days at £200. The work produced will be available under a Creative Commons license.

Please submit a short covering email, CV, relevant examples of work and two references to our Head of Programmes David Smith, david@culturalenterpriseoffice.co.uk by 17.00 on Thursday 9 March.

Interviews will be held on Monday 20 March.


Trainer Call Out

The successful candidate must have and demonstrate the following:

  • An established and sustainable creative practice of five years minimum
  • Experience working collaboratively with individuals and organisations
  • Experience delivering and presenting as part of their practice
  • Commitment to the development of creative industries in Scotland
  • Commitment to equal opportunities in the arts
  • Commitment to supporting young creative people in Scotland

The total fee available for delivery and preparation is £1,000. All materials for the programme will be supplied.

Although we do not have a date for the commencement of the programme we expect to launch it in the early summer of 2017. We are recruiting this post now so they can have an input into the course materials.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and further develop portfolio career success for the creative industries.
