Our mentors come from all corners of the creative industries including publishing, filmmaking software, product design and textiles and know what it is like to run a business in the creative industries.

Annie Griffin – Filmmaker & Director of Pirate Productions

Annie is an Edinburgh based filmmaker and director of Pirate Productions. Past projects include The Book Group for Channel 4, the feature film Festival and New Town for the BBC. Her most recent project is a pilot for Sky Living, Rubenesque.

Damien Smith – Creative Partner, ISO Design

Damien received his Masters in Design from Glasgow School of Art and then worked as a freelance designer before forming ISO in 1998. ISO create immersive media and interactive projects for a range of UK and International clients. The studio specialises in design-led, cultural work that explores new ways in which technology and content can create new experiences.

Gillian Kyle – Designer & Director, Gillian Kyle Ltd

Gillian Kyle is a Glasgow-based textile designer and illustrator and founded her home and giftware business in 2009 after graduating from GSA. Her work is a unique take on Scottishness and Britishness and focuses on popular culture, national symbols and iconic brands; she has collaborated with Tunnock's biscuits, Barr's, Tennents, Glenfiddich, the Famous Grouse and Mackies to produce giftware ranges. The products are sold throughout the UK and beyond, and are now stocked in John Lewis nationwide and Liberty London.

Graham Wilson – Sales Director, Johnstons of Elgin

Graham started his career with Pringle of Scotland and has worked with four UK based clothing manufacturers covering both home and export sales. Johnstons of Elgin is a 215 year old luxury textile business with two production facilities covering knitwear, knitted and woven accessories, cloth and furnishing fabric.

Ian McAteer – Group Chairman, The Union

Ian is a former Barrister and was Director of Saatchi & Saatchi London. He set up The Union in 1996 with three partners. Today The Union is one of Scotland's leading creative agencies delivering advertising, design, direct marketing and digital communications from both Edinburgh and Leeds.

Karen Anderson – Consultant Partner, Anderson Bell Christie

Karen formed Anderson Christie with David Christie, now Anderson Bell Christie, in 1991. Karen is past Convenor for the Saltire Housing Awards Panel, and Chair of Architecture and Design Scotland. Karen recently completed the Scottish Epilepsy Centre and An Cridhe on the Isle of Coll as well as working on a number of Urban Regeneration and Master Planning projects.

Lewis Heath – Director, RHA Audio

Lewis studied architecture for 6 years at the Edinburgh College of Art, giving him a good grounding in design which he used to start the headphone company which would become RHA. RHA now designs and engineers earphones in-house within its Glasgow HQ.

Olly Headey – Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer, FreeAgent Central Ltd

Olly started working in software in 1995, writing video games for a start-up in the Midlands. He moved into the media sector in 1999 working for ABC in Sydney and Capital Radio in London before starting a software consultancy business in 2005. His experience of running a micro-business led him to co-found FreeAgent in 2007 and on a mission to demystify accounting for small businesses. FreeAgent is now based in Edinburgh with over 60 employees and 35,000 happy customers.

Sophie Kyle – Publisher, The Skinny

Sophie Kyle was a founder of The Skinny which launched in 2005. She is an experienced cross-platform publisher who has successfully run digital and print models supported by advertising for the UK events and entertainment market. Her expertise is in motivating teams and building brands around a group vision. Sophie has a passion for understanding what makes individuals tick and believes the organisations in which people work should reflect the needs of individuals.

Stewart Henderson – Co-Founder, Chemikal Underground

Graduating with an Ordinary degree in Accountancy (a subject he loathed), Stewart is a co-founder of the independent record label Chemikal Underground which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2015. He is currently the Chair of the Scottish Music Industry Association where he helped to develop and launch The Scottish Album of the Year Award.

Fiona Smyth - Co-Founder, TotsBots

With no previous experience in product design, manufacturing or running a business, Fiona set up TotsBots at the kitchen table manufacturing a range of eco-friendly washable nappies. 15 years later TotsBots are now sold in 16 countries and are the only washable nappies in the world to have complete Oekotex certification (no nasties, at all, in the supply chain). Totally committed to ethical manufacturing they make all their nappies in their factory in the East End of Glasgow and now employ over 60 people.
