Clare Robertson

Biography

Clare began her working life in the West Midlands, with Sandwell and Walsall Councils, having completed a BA in Visual Communication Studies there in 1984. Originally from the West of Scotland, she gained valuable experience working with culturally diverse communities in a variety of arts based developmental roles. It was here that she began to establish a fundamental understanding of the transformative power of arts and cultural development work within a community context. Clare returned to Scotland as a Cultural Development Officer with Glasgow City Council in 1994. She has since worked for the 1999 Festival of Architecture, Arts Development Section, and within voluntary sector with the Scottish Academy of Asian Arts.

Clare set up her own arts business in 1997, www.clarerobertson-creative.co.uk, and has worked as a consultant and freelance creative practitioner in a variety contexts with arts organisations including Pan African Arts Scotland, Maryhill Integration Network and Paragon Ensemble. Over time her career has enabled her to work in communities across most of Glasgow. She currently works part time with Glasgow Life.

Clare enjoys an holistic approach to life and community and is a life-long volunteer. She has been a member of numerous community based initiatives in all her home towns and sat on various Boards including Streetlevel, Photoworks from 2001 till 2008.
