Mairi Taylor & Robert Softley Gale

Biography

Robert Softley Gale and Mairi Taylor have 16 years of combined experience working with organisations of all sizes to embed disability equality within the fabric of their working practice. Together they run flip, addressing disability and equality in the arts.

At the core of Robert’s working practice is a belief that by creating key partnerships, we can develop an arts sector in Scotland that is inclusive of disabled people and that reflects the society in which we live. Starting out as an actor, Robert worked in both theatre and TV. Since joining Birds of Paradise as their Agent for Change in 2005, Robert has focused on policy and training in the arts and disability. As Equalities Officer (Arts and Disability) for the Scottish Arts Council, Robert worked closely with arts organisations to engage with disabled people and disabled artists to develop their practice.

Mairi has experience of audience development, consultation and project management on a national scale across theatres, galleries and museums. Mairi believes that building relationships with audiences, partners or collaborators brings about real change through increased confidence and understanding.

Starting out as an artist, Mairi has worked in the area of arts and access since 2003, most recently managing an access project for the Federation of Scottish Theatre that saw the launch of a new national theatre guide – Access Scottish Theatre.
