Julie Thomson

Biography

Julie is an Open Innovation specialist who works with clients to capture value by actively seeking ways to open up their businesses to external collaborations.

Julie worked in industry (with Medical Diagnostic company Randox Laboratories, based in Northern Ireland) before joining the Higher Education sector seven years ago, as a Knowledge Transfer Officer. She has more recently joined Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) as a lecturer in the Glasgow School for Business and Society.

At GCU, Julie lectures within business and management disciplines and carries out research on innovation management and operations management. Julie's PhD is in Open Innovation and her research bridges the gap between theory and practice by turning the buzzword of Open Innovation into practical ways to engage. This includes where and how to access external knowledge, how to manage external relationships and how to gain value from unused ideas or intellectual property.
