Chris Biddlecombe

Biography

Chris has over 15 years’ experience in developing and maintaining artist studio buildings. He currently works with WASPS Artists' Studios as Studio Projects Manager, focusing on upgrading and developing artist studios across Scotland. He has also worked with the National Federation of Artists' Studio Providers (NFASP) as Scottish co-ordinator.

Chris is an independent artist who has created and exhibited mixed media installations and performances in the UK and internationally. His commissioned works are interactive social, historical and geographic responses to specific public sites and communities that have encouraged collaborations with architects, engineers, planners, museum curators, writers, performers, musicians and other creative makers. Chris develops new projects either as an independent artist/project manager, or through a number of ongoing collaborative entities. He currently collaborates as: co-director of Site Insite – developing new arts regeneration projects; co-creator of The Edible Construction Company – a creative platform for the development of innovative transferable interventions; co-creator of No Noise Projects – creating work that combines sound and visual narratives; and co-creator of Obstacle Soup – a fictional record company.

Chris has served on the executive of the Scottish Artists Union since its formation in 2001 – holding the post of President 2009-11. He is committed to the core principles of the Union, to lobby for better working conditions for all visual and applied artists throughout Scotland. He has served on the executive of the European Council of Artists since 2012, and is currently working collaboratively with artist organisations across Europe as co-creator of European Artist Rights Projects, developing research into artist exhibition rights and artist contracts.
