Ciara Phillips

Biography

Ciara is a Canadian/Irish artist based in Glasgow since 2002. She studied Fine Art at Queen's University, Canada (BFA 2000) before moving to Glasgow to study for a Masters Degree in Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art (MFA 2004).

Since completing her studies, Ciara has worked in various capacities as an artist and educator. She has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally with recent exhibitions taking place in Stockholm, Bergen, Berlin, Nürnberg and New York. She develops new work in her studio in Glasgow and at Glasgow Print Studio where she works primarily through the process of screenprinting. In recent years, she has also been artist-in-residence at: St. John's College, Oxford; Drawing Room, London; Hamburg Kunstverein; and in the City of Düsseldorf.

In 2014, Ciara was nominated for the Turner Prize for an exhibition at The Showroom in London (2013) where she set up a temporary screenprinting studio in the gallery and worked collaboratively with artists, designers and local community groups over a period of two months to produce new artworks. This, and other similar exhibitions, draw upon her long-standing interest in collaborative working – first explored when she was an undergraduate student in Canada and further developed through her teaching and work with other artists.
